give me your heart - my first song

For the longest time this song didn’t really have a title.. I just knew we’d live differently if we knew why we were here.. and by we, I mean especially me.

“I’ll embrace the space you created for me.. “ is where it starts. “Give me YOUR heart” is where it ends.

Somehow, embracing the lives that we’ve been given has everything to do with if we have learned to love like God does.

Him first (Luke 10:27) with all our strength. Ourselves, and one another the same.

It means ascribing worth to what we carry - ascribing worth to Who gave it to us, and ascribing worth those who depend on us to give it away.

It means seeing ourselves as God sees us - worthy, able, cherished, and so uniquely prized that we're literally one of a kind. It means finding a way to unapologetically live that out. It means that once we get a handle on just how much God's perfect & abounding love gives us permission to abide safely in Him - we do just that, but we don't go at it alone. We bring others along.

Alive? You’re supposed to be.
Gifted? You’ve got something to give.
In a life-changing relationship with Jesus? Definitely, don't keep that to yourself.
If you’re anything like me - or human, you have both embraced what you know to do and then struggled with what you wanted to do - you have trusted and leaned on each one of God’s whispers in your ear, and then - you second guessed everything. You’ve both been grateful for your portion, and still fell short of stewarding it well... This toggle and fight to embrace His truth and perfect will is not easy, but it's worth the fight. And we have a Savior.
We have help to get to the greater thing.

That's why this song was written.

Truth be told, if we are not deceived into over-valuing ourselves and being self-consumed, we under-value ourselves, we underestimate the gifts of God in our lives and we hide - refusing to to attend to or bring His good and perfect gifts into full, uninhibited, fearless manifestation. At our worst, we let our gifts and the assignments over our lives collect dust. Being caught up in our own frailties, we miss the opportunity to experience the freedom He died to give us. But not only for us - for others.  We MISS - in plain sight — mind you --- countless opportunities to bring this same liberty to other aching souls.

I think God wants us to do otherwise. And  by us - I start with capital M.E.
That’s why there’s this song…

“I’ll embrace the space that you created for me…”

We have gifts to give, and hearts to love, and testimonies to encourage - for a reason.
Life is so much more than the lousy pursuit of personal happiness and serving ourselves. Our bellies are never full. We can chase pleasure and comfort forever - but our cups only get refilled when we learn how to pour. There’s so much more...

The least we can do is honor this moment in time that God has entrusted us with - not counting ourselves unworthy, or too busy -  but instead counting ourselves LOVED, and a NECESSARY stitch in the fabric of God's reach. We get one life. We can't esteem ourselves as the principle thing the entire time. Not if there are other lives to light up. We are alive only because of the grace and mercies of God -  it only makes sense to take some, and pass it down.

I’ll embrace the space that you created for me…

Each of us - with God’s heart - and in the capacity with which we are graced, can literally give our lives over to loving hard and healing people around us - handling them as carefully as God has handled us - prioritizing their redemption and salvation just as Jesus prioritized ours.

Jesus took no thought of Himself. Jesus (being the Son of God) made Himself of no reputation - just to get His job done - just to love in word and deed - just to take on our punishment and die an excruciating death - on a cross. Just for us to LIVE whole now, and live again.

We've not suffered that much.

So I'm thinking - the quicker life becomes less about our personal fears, disqualifications, insecurities, and preoccupations - and more about what we can do to bring heaven to earth -  maybe then, we’re on to something.

“I’ll embrace the space that you created for me…”

- to commit to what really matters and LOVE OTHERS right into the safety of God's family - where I, myself, so desperately needed to be made well and redeemed.

Dear God.

Help me to realize I’m not just here for me. I’m here because YOU want me to be here, and what YOU’VE given me, YOU want me to give.

And You’re the greatest gift.
The greatest gift is YOU.
